Life Update...

It's time for another "life update"...

Christmas - was spent at my aunt and uncles place with pretty much my whole family (minus a few we don't speak of) I got to spend the whole day playing with my cousin Logan and cuddling my new baby cousin (and godson) Seth. I received a Blu-Ray player, a cassette iPhone cover, and vouchers to Things Living, Dymocks and Coles Myer. It was fun, but a little bit sad, because a couple days before we received news that a family friend had died :(

New Years Eve - was spend at work, until 5pm and then to my friends 26th Birthday/Tim Burton NYE party. Everyone dressed up (including me... I went as Voodoo Girl) and had an awesome time. I don't drink, so it was pretty funny watching my friends get drunk :) We left the party at about 11pm and then went to mums' to watch the midnight fireworks.

1st January 2012 - If you follow me on Twitter you would of seen that January 1st was this blogs 4th Birthday, but when I came home from work (yes! I had to work New Years Day) I had the worst headache so I went to bed. 4 years is a really long time to have a blog :O It has gone by many names over the years, but has never really changed much. You should take a look at the archive and read some old posts!

My 2012 Bucket List is here... I've already watched 2 new movies this year (The Adventures Of Tintin and War Horse) and I'm planning the first blog competition, but other than that it's pretty much been minecraft and procrastination...

Reading... Geek Girls Unite

CRUSHING ON... Adrien Brody (again)

wasting my iPhones' battery with...
Pocket Academy

Now that my work shifts are back to normal, I can plan more posts. I have a couple to do, but my Procrastination Fairy likes to send a lot of time hanging around.

News & New Stuff

If you are a facebook friend, or follow me on Twitter you'll know that WE GOT A HOUSE. We actually got the house that we all liked and for $20,000 less than the owners were asking for. But that's all I know at the moment, because I haven't had any time to speak to dad in the last few days. Yesterday was very stressful. Dad put in his final offer and we waited. Kelly (the real estate agent) rang at lunch time and told dad the good news, but dad was feeling very unsure about it, he's worried he can't afford it, because he lost a day at his job, but I think everything will be okay.

ANYWAY NEW STUFF. First off, this new app on my iPhone called Instagram, that lets you take photos and add awesome old school filters to them. If you follow my TUMBLR you would of seen them. My best photo so far is this one...
I love the old school frame and colouring, plus PC is a supermodel when it comes to getting photos taken, unlike Cous Cous, who I chased around for an hour and didn't manage to get any good photos.

Jelly Bean is going well. I have entered a meaningful long term relationship with him. He's just so smart and sexy and drives me crazy (obviously, because I'm talking about a machine like it's a human being)

Anyway... new stuff. Just DVDs, but I've taken photos of them with Instagram, so they look pretty.
The Lost Thing. Animated short created by Shaun Tan. It came with a limited edition book with illustration by Shaun Tan. It's now one of my life goals to buy all of Shaun Tans' books, because they're amazing.
Pushing Daisies Season 1. This series is amazing. It's quirky, strange and lovely. The pie maker can bring people back to life with one touch, and the second touch kills them again PERMANENTLY. When the love his life, Chuck, dies, he's touches her. Now they live together but he can't touch her because then she'll die. The pie maker uses his powers to help his PI buddy solve murders.
It's a seriously excellent show, it reminds me of the Tim Burton film Big Fish. And everyone that has ever rented it from Blockbuster, loved it. (there is only 2 season, which is sad. But it's so good you can watch it over and over again)
Life Season 1 & 2. Reason for buying this??? Damian Lewis. I've only seen a couple of episodes, and it was on sale at Target, so I just couldn't resist (you know me)

So that's today for you. It was suppose to be my day off, but I got called into work at Target, which I didn't mind... more money. I'm feeling a lot less stressed now that we have a house to move into. I didn't like that period of not knowing where I'd be living next year, but now I do. YAY.

Anyway off to the bookstore to pick up some books and buy the new Frankie magazine.

Update

Not really in the mood for epic posting today.
Had a marvelous day yesterday. I did everything I planned to do. plus some more.
I watched Robin Hood. It was awesome... and not just because Kevin Durand was in it... but that did help.
I can't be bother writing a review. So just watch it.

Currently listening to the Phantom Of The Opera soundtrack (the film soundtrack) I completely forgot that Patrick Wilson (ie Night Owl from Watchmen & Agent Lynch from The A Team) sang... really well, I looked him up... and he was a singer before he was an actor. And of course... Gerard Butler singing. SWOON!

Being playing Red Dead Redemption on Xbox 360. I haven't made it very far. I have far too much fun running around shooting things. I've never been a big video game player, over than Sims... but they're open ended. Not a set levels etc. Stupid John Marston is in my dreams. Stupid Cowboys. First Pirates, then Soldiers.... now Cowboys. I honestly can't see how people can think Ninjas are cooler than Pirates and Cowboys.

fashion & flying

my style has changed slightly. damn that suggestible goo I call my brain.
guns. fur. corsets. brass lighters (but not to light cigarettes).
i almost used cowboy boots in the above set. COWBOY BOOTS. what is wrong with me?
damn you Kevin Durand. why did you have to be in a "western"?
why did that western have to be so freaking awesome?
I want a huge men's watch. at work (target) there are some fathers day packs that have a really nice stainless steel watch I just have to have.
It's times like this, I wish I was skinny and had a shit load of money.
I wouldn't care what people thought of me. I'd be that strange girl.
The one that, one day is wearing military inspired fashion and the next looking like a bar wench from a cowboy movie.
Albany is too small to be fashionable.

I've been listening to the same 2 songs over and over.
Hear Me Now by Secondhand Serenade and;
You're Going Down by Sick Puppies.

My body hates me.
It's the same feeling I get after I've done lots of exercise. but I haven't. I've just been getting up early and working ALL week.

I need wings. (and Kevin Durand... but that's an entirely different story)
Photobucket
it makes sense.
I love feathers. I love to fly. I want to travel.
It just seems like the best option.
well... if humans could even have wings.
I was going to say "well... if angels even existed." but they do so that would of been a lie.
don't judge me. I may not have a guardian angel at the moment.
I did. when I was little. His name was David.
He was a boy my age who had wings.
my "imaginary friend"
I'm not crazy :)

ps. I edited my "About Me" & "Films" pages.

Idiots & Pretty Flowers

The town I live in is ran by idiots. today I was reading Thursday's newspaper, and was so shocked by what I read. A man in Albany started a facebook group to petition for Big W to open in town. The city council rejected Big W a couple of weeks ago. Well the man, has been "asked" by his boss to close the page down, or he'll lose his job. Because local businesses don't want to deal with a business that employs someone that doesn't support local business. FUCK YOU! I want Big W! I care about local businesses, but I also care about variety, and albany has over 25,000 people, I think we should get a Big W, or at least get to vote. Also 3 of the council members are sueing the council, but won't stand down. so they're sueing themselves???? YOU'RE ALL IDIOTS! YOU ALL SHOULD BE FIRED!

Today I went out with my dad to look for orchids. And we found some. My favourite flowers in the whole world, they only grow around here. They're called Queen of Sheba orchids and they're amazing. Just have a look.
They grow on tall thin stem and usually have 1-3 flowers on them, today we found one that had SEVEN flowers on one stem...
They come like these, and sometimes with less purple and more pink, we didn't find any pink ones today. They're quite small, the top photo was the size of an (Australian) 50c piece, but they're usually the size of an (Australian) 20c piece. I wish I could have one in my room, but it's illegal to pick them, and I wouldn't, and they only flower in the sun (they're sun orchids) and they only last about 5 days, before they die.

23 August 2010

you're insane, but you might also be brilliant

Duromine - Day 4. Haven't eaten as much as I would of usually over the last 4 days, so it works. And I haven't felt hungry, but I've felt empty. Sleeping is okay. It takes me a really long time to get to sleep, I spend a little while tossing and turning, but I assume I fall asleep at some point. It hasn't got any worse since the first day, but I'm still hoping it doesn't get any worse.

I decided to check out eBay again. I stopped because I got a little addicted, but I thought, just a little look. I ended up buying a pair of Tortoise Frame Ray Ban Wayfarers for $40 with free postage. They're coming from Hong Kong, so there is a chance they will be fakes, but if they look like Ray Bans and work as sunglasses, I'll be happy, and if they're real, I'll be stoked =D
This is the photo from the listing. You can't really see the Tortoise frame, but I'm in love. I looked up how to tell the difference between fake and real Ray Bans, and from what I saw in the photos on the listing, all looks good, but I need to have them in my hand and look at them closely.

I started following Tim Roth on Twitter. It's a verified account and there is lots of photos of the cast of Lie To Me. I found out last night that Mr T Roth, backed out of playing Snape in Harry Potter. Could you imagine how epic Harry Potter would of been if...
... was Severus Snape? Not saying that Alan Rickman is doing a bad job. I love Alan Rickman, but holy crap people. Tim Roth would of fucking ruled. But that's okay, that's life. If everyone who was meant to play certain characters played them, Inglourious Basterds just wouldn't be as Epically awesome. Adam Sandler as the Bear Jew.... no thanks.

Anyway. I'm off now. I have an ultrasound to see if I have PCOS, or if I'm just crazy. I really need to pee, but I can't because I'm not allowed =(

Moleskine vs. Filofax

First off I'm going to say, ever since I found Gala Darling (I don't remember when) she has influenced me. That's why, for the last 2 years I've been using a Moleskine Planner, in 2009 it was a hard cover black daily planner, this year I'm using a soft cover weekly notes planner. After this year, I've decided to go back to a daily planner, because I like having the day on a whole page, it means I have more room to scribble all the important (and unimportant) things. But I have recently read, that Gala has moved on to Filofax. I had a Filofax, it was sky blue and huge, it was very bulky, but it was one that I had purchased in town, and I didn't know there was so many different types to choose from. Like these two:

Moleskine's are expensive, but these Filofax are even more so. But you can reuse a Filofax every year, but with my style and likes changing regularly I don't want to be stuck with something expensive that I'll use once and then put in a box somewhere (like my sky blue Filofax)
Maybe I should find my old one and give it another try.
But sitting here and thinking. I'll probably end up with a new Moleskine Daily Planner, maybe this time in Red.
Now I'm going to watch Bored To Death.
mmm... Jason Schwartzman.

Edit - July 14th
When I get paid I'm going to order a 2011 Red Moleskine Daily
They're on sale at Fishpond.com.au
Hopefully they will still be on sale.

"Current" Survey

Stolen from microcutts

Current Books: Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together (vol 4 of series) by Bryan Lee O'Malley. I stopped reading it mid-chapter last night while I was in bed because it started to hail, so I turned the light out and snuggled under the blankets. I had a girly squee moment at the end of volume 3, because you see Gideon Graves for a split section. If you didn't know that he was in vol 3 you would of missed him, but I saw him =D

Current Playlist: "Random" it has 4 songs on it. "Nothing I Won't Give" and "Guilty Beauty Love" by Vic Mignogna, "Set The Fire To The Third Bar" by Snow Patrol featuring Martha Wainwright, and "Wind Of Change" by Scorpions (yes I'm that freaking awesome)

Current Colour: Green. But fashion wise, Grey. Because it's black, but not black. Grey is the new Black.

Current Drink: Pepsi Max, but I really should be drinking more water.

Current Food: Kit Kat. YUM!

Current Favourite Show: Don't really have a favourite at the moment. I try not to miss Dirty Jobs on ABC2, and I've just finished the first season of Spongebob Squarepants (don't judge me, Patrick is HOT!) I'm currently downloading the first season of Bored To Death, and I'm sad that Doctor Who has finished.

Current Wishlist: To see Predators & to buy Predators comic vol 4.

Current Needs: see above.

Current Triumphs: actually bought my mother a proper birthday present this year.

Current Bane of My Existence: Small children who bully. Bad Drivers. People who expect me to run after THEIR kids when they run out to the carpark (WATCH YOUR OWN FUCKING CHILDREN).

Current Celebrity Crush: Don't get me started, but it does ask only for the "Current Celebrity Crush" but for you, a special 2 for 1 offer...
Adrien Brody

Jason Schwartzman

I was actually able to have a serious conversation about my celebrity crushes (as "serious" as that conversation can be) with a girl at work on Saturday night. It was really nice to talk to someone who knew who I was talking about, and the movies I was talking about.

Current Indulgence: Staying at a 4 star hotel when we go to Perth for the 30 Seconds To Mars concert (well if I ever get around to actually booking it)

Current Blessing: My family, and my health (even though I'm "Obese" I'm not sick, and don't have any serious medical conditions) so I'm extremely grateful for that. This may seen a little silly. I'm a non-practicing Roman Catholic, but I'm seriously thinking about going to church every now and then. That's not really a "blessing" but still.

Current Slang: as much as I hate it... "LOL" I even caught myself saying "LOL" as a form of sarcasm, which I guess is okay.

Current Outfit: Black Jeans, Grey Top, Charcoal Cardigan and odd socks.

Current Excitement: 30 Seconds To Mars concert in 2 weeks!

Current Mood: Content & Impatient (I want Bored To Death to hurry up and finish downloading)

Now to go and convert lots of photos to Polaroids with Poladroid.

Ch... Ch... Ch... Changes

this post is brought to you by "Changes by David Bowie" because no matter how hard you try, you'll never be as cool (or as awesome) as BOWIE!

I don't know how many of you have noticed, but a few changes are happening with my blog. I've decided that I was done with getting lost, and it was time to start acting more like myself.... a Princess, and of course, a Geek.
Things that have changed (for all you that read my blog through Google Reader, or RSS feeds):
  • New Banner.
  • New Layout.
  • and most importantly (and excitedly) new URL, and not just any URL, a custom one. You are now visitors to http://www.theprincessandthegeek.com. No more ".blogspot.com" and smooth sailing from here on in.
Today I decided to change. Everything. The way I think, the way I write, how I communicate with others, and of course my physical appearance, I'm done being stuck in the body, and since science hasn't come up with a way of transmitting all my memories and awesomeness into another body, I'm going to have to change this one. Stupid science, they can take photos of the Big Bang, but not create away for me to be transmitted into Agyness Deyns' body.  BASTARDS!
So these changes, come with a couple of Mid-Year Resolutions. Or new years resolution for all you Accounting types out there. And here they are:
  • be more social (online and offline) in other words, when your friends invite you out, don't make up some excuse not to go, then spend the night watching Star Trek or Spongebob.
  • Comments more. Because the more I comment, the chance of more traffic to my blog increases, because I will always check out the blogs of people that comment on my friends blog.
  • stop facebook stalking people you don't like, because it always ends in emo-ness.
  • Scribble more & stop buying Notebook (i need to use the ones I have first)
  • ORGANISE. BUDGET. REPEAT!
  • and last but not least.... EXERCISE goddammit!
  • oh yeah, and create a machine that will transmit my memories and awesomeness into Agyness (see above)
I'm also, going to stop posting a hundred million times a day (unless you like me posting lots (let me know)) and maybe post some more photos & the aforementioned scribbles. I tried the 365 photo project, but it lasts like 5 days and I forget about it. (GOD I'M TALKATIVE TONIGHT)
Anyway, enough rambling. I'm going to leave you with something NICE, and by nice, I mean hot, and by hot, I mean dirty, and by dirty, I mean SEXY. *girly squee*
he needs to be in my pants right now. (this isn't the whole photo, but I got sick of waiting for it to load so I gave up. But this is pretty much as sexy as it gets)

Here's the names they missed. Westley, Tennant & Barnaby for boys, and Daisy, Delilah & Jemimah for girls. I surprised by the lack of Edwards in WA, obviously West Aussies are smarter than I thought =P
I think if I ever had children I would like to have a girl, but I have so many awesome names for boys. Do you think I could get away with calling my daughter Westley or Tennant?

Panic Attacks & Packaging

I had a panic attack last night. A real "wall are closing in, can't breathe" panic attack, brought on by the fact that I laid down in bed and was about to go to sleep and I couldn't breathe. I literally couldn't breathe, I tried to take a breath and couldn't I sat up and gulped and managed to get a breath, and then the panic attack started. I couldn't manage to get any air in probably and I was crying. I tried to call out to my sister but couldn't, I ended up knocking on the wall to get her attention and she got mum. It's only the 3rd panic attack I've had in my life. The first one was when I was little, about 8 and I was thinking about death, so I freaked out, the last one was a couple of years ago when I was trying to decide whether I wanted to continue working for a company that I just didn't feel very comfortable about (they ended up letting me go after my probation had finished anyway) and then last night. This one was the worst, and scariest, and I'm still feeling the effects of it now. My whole body aches, I guess due to the lack of oxygen, and my chest hurts (because I'm still recovering from the cold, and still coughing so that didn't help either) but mentally, I actually better.

After I calmed down I went to bed, with my pillows high and read for about 2 hours. I'm currently reading Seven Ancient Wonders by Matthew Reilly. It's so good. I've seen his books around, but avoided them because I'm not a big fan of Australian Music/Film/Books. But a couple of months ago Kerri-Anne did an interview with him and he was quite funny and witty, so I thought I better check his books out. It's like Indiana Jones meets Da Vinci Code. It's excellent and really really hard to put down. Once I managed to put it down I slept like a baby, until morning when mum walked in my room, poked me and asked if I was still alive. I moaned and rolled over, and slept for another 3 hours, then I rolled over onto something hard and plastic. It was a package. OMG iPad, but no it wasn't. It was from Samantha Wills. It was the bracelet I had ordered. In the newest edition of Shop Til You Drop there was a free $35 voucher to spend at Samantha Wills online store. I checked it out and found so many beautiful pieces of jewelry. And then I found it. The most amazing awesome bracelet ever. Well after the $35 voucher, it cost me $39, including postage and handling. And It showed up today... in a hand craved wooden box.

Handcraved box

Opened the box

The Bracelet

I love it. I can't wait to wear it out. It's so piratey =D It makes the most wonderful sound and the coins aren't all the same, so it's really interesting. But the wooden box. I think I love more than the bracelet. It's so beautiful, the design on the top is hand craved and it just feels so nice. It's really my first piece of designer jewelry. I'm so impressed with the packaging. I've always loved packaging (yep I'm getting weirder). It all started when I got my first iPod. Apple have always made unboxing fun. Hence why I'm planning an unboxing post when my iPad arrives.

That's pretty much it for today. I have made some more polyvore sets that I will post later on. The blog world has seemed to slowed a little. But that doesn't matter, because I will be here.

29 April 2010

I did it!

37 minutes on Wii Fit Plus = 287 calories burnt!
Do you know the best thing about exercising at home?
I can wear tights.... as pants =P
I believe it's something you can wear in the comfort of your own home...
... but NOT in public!

I feel better now. Less doubtful.
That workout burnt the block of chocolate to oblivion.
I don't know why I never thought about it before =D

I got a lovely comment from Sarah on my last blog.
She left it without any links so I don't know who she is.
But thank you.
I know that buying new things is a rush.
I'm a shopaholic =D
and a geek.
And usually technology is the most expensive.
If I didn't spend my whole life overweight
I seriously think I would of spent thousands and thousands of dollars on fashion
I love fashion. But luckily for me
I can't fit in it.
Lucky and Unlucky I guess.

Did anyone else notice all the new items on the toolbar and the new add image options?
they were there yesterday
but they're gone today.
Am I seeing things?

I like typing is short sentences
and half sentences.
I only do it, because I like reading blogs this way
they seem easier to read.
and it looks like poetry.
maybe i could make it rhyme
not that I have the time
maybe i'll have some coke with lime
and think about things that are mine
=D

OMG
I'm a retard.
I wish I had someone here to bounce off.
that's kinda one of the reasons
i kinda miss my "ex-cousins"
we could bounce off each other all day
with silly sayings and stories.
but she ruined it.
=(

maybe a silly limerick
hello my name is pete
i'm standing in the street
gimme your cash
nice and fash (haha fast!)
or i'll kick you in the teeth.
EPIC FAIL!

the next one goes.
Hello my name is lee
a man in mugging me
come real quick
and bring ya stick
come on he's getting free.

or something like that.
I heard them somewhere.
some irish/scottish/welsh comedian.

Can Someone Buy Me These?

Aren't they amazing? They're pure love.
I'm going through a slight "pirate" phase.
But OMG I want these boots.
They're $US510 through Net-A-Porter, but they're out of stock. =(

The other alternative is the same boot, but with beige straps.
Which are just as awesome. Maybe better? What do you think? I would never buy them, I'll just find some cheap rip-off. =D
I saw these shoes yesterday, and last night I dreamed of them. That's how much love they produce.

Captain Jack Sparrow = Pirate LOVE

04 January 2010

just a short introduction 2.0

If you haven't noticed, I've deleted the 2 most recent posts. Mainly because they were both stupid and worthless =D So now a real post. On January 1st it was the 2 year anniversary of this blog. It's had many different faces, it started out as Cupcakes & Mustangs and then early last year it was Eclectic Geekery, and now the more vague and elusive title of The Importance Of Getting Lost. I don't know if I'm the only one that changes her blog title (and URL) so often, (It will probably change even more in the future) Does anyone else change theirs?

My first post was an introduction, it is pretty much what I'm like now, but with a couple of changes (like age =P) I've decided to re-introduce myself to all my new followers who probably haven't gone back in the achieve that far =D

Howdy, I'm Melissa. I'm 23 and live in Western Australia. I still live at home with my parents, but that's because it's too expensive to move out, especially if I don't have anyone to share with because I'm sad and only have online friends =D I drive a Honda Jazz. He's purple and named Stanley (<-- he even has his own blog label) I used to dress like an Emo, but I've never been overly Emo. I actually think I'm more Emo now, even though I no longer dress Emo =D I'm a GEEK. 138% Geek. Mostly film/tv and music geek, but it's more a mixture of everything. I work at Blockbuster, have done for almost 2 years. I'm the girl you need if you need to know what "that movie was called staring that guy who was in that other movie with that other guy" is. I usually get it, even if I haven't seen the movie. I don't know how I hold all this information about movies and tv without my brain exploding, but I do. I don't get addicted to things, but I do become obsessed. Most recent obsessions include, Billy Talent (band), Tim Roth (actor), The Sims 3 and so on.... If you go back over my blogs you can usually figure out who I'm obsessed with for that week.
My Favourite Actor is Karl Urban, hence the fact he has his own label too. I've met him. He was awesome and smelt very nice =D
My favourite bands are: Muse, Him, Billy Talent, The Used, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, The Rasmus, 30 Seconds to Mars.... the list goes on and one. I suggest (if you're interested) check out my Last.FM, because it's pretty much running 24/7.
I could go on for days about the stuff I love, but one thing that everyone knows about me, is I have a short attention span. So about now, I'm starting to get bored of writing. So I'm going to post some photos =D

Xmas Rambles

What I want for Christmas (revised)

another Wreck This Journal (my current one is starting to fill up fast)
Pretty pens. Like coloured fine liners. I don't remember what they're called. STAEDTLER triplus 20 pack (I'm going to try and convince my mother to get me these) or these
Stickers are always good. It doesn't even matter what they are.
Books about interior design or just design in general. I'm going into TAFE on the 18th of January to talk the the head lecturer for the Design course. I'm hoping he lets me in the class.
Inkheart, Inkspell and Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke (must be in the covers below (couldn't find the covers for Inkheart and Inkspell, but you get the idea)

That's all I can think of at the moment. But it might help those in my life that are having a hard time buying for me.

I went and saw AVATAR today.
OMG.
AWESOME.
That's all I really have to say.
Just go see it!
