Goodbye 2015

What a crazy year 2015 was. I took a large jump closer to becoming more like the real Me! It was a very strange feeling to finish the year and know that I had a successful year!! So if you feel like it, I answered 39 Questions about 2015. You don't have to read it all! :)
Screen Shot 2015-12-29 at 2.30.10 pm
1. What did you do in 2015 that you’d never done before?
Traveled overseas to New Zealand, Bungy Jumped, Zorbed, Ziplined, Jumped completely out of my comfort zone (53 strangers on Contiki tour) Saw a Kea, a Kiwi, a Tuatara, and other amazing NZ animals, went as far south as I ever had, went as far East as I ever had, went through customs (didn’t get in trouble), went on a ferry that carries cars, saw a dormant volcano, climbed to the top of an extinct volcano… so freaking much! Tattoos!!
2. Did you keep your New Year’s Resolutions, and will you make more for next year
I didn’t send cards to my friends like I said I would – I sort of looked after myself (I joined a gym, but stopped going after 2 weeks because someone who worked there was a bitch to me – still paying for it though :( ) I read more blogs, but didn’t blog as much as I wanted… I did start this blog with my bestie… so hopefully next year will be better. I stressed about money sometimes… but not as much as I did in 2014… and I tried to be a better work colleague, but it’s hard when your workplace goes to shit… but we survived and 2016 is going to be awesome!
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes, my cousin gave birth to her little Ruby!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5. What countries did you visit?
New Zealand!
6. What would you like to have in 2016 that you lacked in 2015?
confidence – I think I answer confidence to this question all the time. I’m definitely getting better… I still just haven’t figured out how to make friends and meet people without feeling super awkward!
7. What dates from 2015 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Jumping off that bridge in New Zealand! I still can’t believe that I did it!
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Travelling to New Zealand on my own, and the whole experience of making new friends, being adventurous and taking a huge literal leap out of my comfort zone!
9. What was your biggest failure?
Being single all year. I haven nothing against being single, I love it, but I would like to experience being in a relationship no matter how short!
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
No, I was quite lucky health wise. I’ve been a little mentally down in the last couple of months, but I’m working through it!
11. What was the best thing someone bought you?
My mum bought the air tickets to New Zealand for me! If she wasn’t there to help I probably would of never made it!
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
I would say my own… I’m very proud of how I handled this year
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
A few people, new and old, that could just disappear from my life.
14. Where did most of your money go?
New Zealand
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
New Zealand
16. What song will always remind you of 2015?

with New Zealand :D
22. How many one night stands?
No

Sense8, new series of Orange is The New Black
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Yes
25. What was the best book you read?
It’s a tie between Room or The Light We Cannot See
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Star Wars made character playlists on Spotify!
27. What did you want and get?
Trip to New Zealand, Thermomix… heaps of stuff
28. What did you want and not get?
Lots of things…
29. What was your favourite film of this year?
Star Wars The Force Awakens
30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I had the day off work. I got my nails done, had morning tea at my aunts cafe… just relaxed. I turned 29!
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Spending more time with Emmy
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2015?

Fish & Chips on the foreshore in Auckland! (Fush & Chups!)
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2015?
LIFE BEGINS AT THE END OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE!

Seven.

I completely forgot!
Yesterday was the 7th birthday of my blog!
Of this blog!
7 years I've been blogging (and considering there was 3 years prior to that on Myspace... thats 10 years of blogging!)
A DECADE!

This blog hasn't always been The Princess & The Geek
it started as Mustangs & Cupcakes
then it was Eclectic Geekery
and then The Importance of Getting Lost...
then finally in 2012 it became The Princess & The Geek
and that's were it stuck!

What an amazing time I've had over the past 7 years.
I've never been overly worried about the number of followers I had
I just wanted to create a little space on the internet that was me.

This year I have acquires some more followers
more than I ever had in the 6 previous years
and I've discovered some awesome people
and made some awesome friends.

Thank you for your support and love.

Here's to the next 7 years!

Jubly-Umph.... an Australian maker of awesome jewellery is selling a special The Great Jubly-Umph Mystery Box... for $50! $100 worth of items for $50... and it's just for this weekend!
They have some really wonderful items! Such as...

It's my first purchase from them, but my sister has purchased items from them before, so I know the items are made really well! I can't wait to see what I get!!

I will definitely do a post when I get it. I'm going to be stuck in Perth, away from home for almost 2 weeks at the end of September, so expect a lot of blog posts... or none! I really need to plan what I need to take... it will be the longest I'm ever been away from home, in a different city!! It's going to be hard and I'll probably be a little emotional!

I need some blogging ideas... let me know in the comments!

I ordered dresses!
I'm naughty.
But so excited.
Almost time for another OOTD :D
Stay tuned!

Shopping & Pirates!

I did something I thought I would never do!
I ordered a pair of Crocs
yes. I am one of those anti-Crocs people.
I understand that they may be the most comfortable shoes ever
BUT THEY UGLY!

Well, Crocs now make shoes that don't look like your stereotypical "Crocs"
A mum came in and was wearing them and they're AMAZING!

I don't usually order shoes online.
I'm worried about the sizing
but I can return them if they're too big/too small!

My new backpack is on it's way!
I'm obsessed.
I'm constantly going back to the website to have a look!
I can't wait!
I'm crazy I know.

I'm heading back to Sydney in July.
and I'm also hoping to do some exploring around my area.
I want to travel, but don't want to jump straight into the deep end :D
There are a few awesome places to visit around here.
Wave Rock.
The Caves.
etc.
So I might get myself a tent and try some solo camping :D

It other news!!

Toby Stephens as Captain Flint in Black Sails
Mr Rochester as a pirate! *swoon*

I've watched one episode of Black Sails and I love it.
I LOVE PIRATES!
And finally a show that shows what it's really like
not some overly fantasied version!
LOVE LOVE!

:)

Hair Talk

I think, after trying to grow my hair long for the last 2 years, that it's time to give up!
I have always had short hair.
And I want it back!

I came across this...
<3
and I think it's time!
I love this style!
Maria on Lost In A Spotless Mind did a few posts about her pixie cut.

Rachele at The Nearsighted Owl pulled off an AWESOME Pixie cut too!
I would love to have this colour
But because of work I can't.

I was worried about how my Pixie Cut would look with my thick glasses
but I searched and found a couple of images.

I like the colour in this one!

So stay tuned to see if I actually get around to getting my hair cut!

:)

When I'm Feeling Down

When I'm feeling depressed, anxious, sad or angry these are a few things that I do to help me feel better.

I watch Youtube videos of play-throughs of my favourite games.
My favourites are The Yogscast.
They are hilarious and just listening to them joke around while trying to get to the moon in Minecraft is an instant mood lifter.

Listen to music.
It depends on how I'm feeling, as to what music I will listen to.
I have a few playlists on my computer that correspond to what I'm feeling.

I have ANGRY, which is full of fast angry sounding rock songs and songs with titles like "Fuck You" (Lily Allen), "I Don't Care" (Apocalyptica feat. Adam Gontier) and "I Hate Everything About You" (Three Days Grace) etc.

I have SAD, which is full of sad, ballads. That even though they're sad songs, make me feel better! Songs like, "Your Guardian Angel" (Red Jumpsuit Apparatus), "Come Away to The Water" (Maroon 5) and "Fix You" (Coldplay) etc.

When I'm feeling anxious, I usually turn to 8track.com.
I usually go for the mixes that feature instrumental songs from Soundtracks, epic scores from Lord of The Rings, Gladiator and Inception etc.
I'm currently listening to Feel Something. (which has 62 tracks in it)

The best thing about listen to 8track while you're anxious, is you can only skip tracks 5 times every hour, so you have to listen to the whole song! You find yourself lost in a world of awesome!

Bake.
Cupcakes, usually!
I always have ingredients for cupcakes around.
This is sometimes a problem, because usually the reason for my anxieties is the dirty kitchen, so I can't really bake... but either way, baking always makes me feel better.
I like experimenting with different flavours, ingredients and cooking times.
I'm yet to make the perfect cupcake... but one day!

Play video games.
Usually Minecraft or Skyrim.
I love opened ended games where you can just wander around and explore.
Sometimes, I might want to do a quest, but usually I just explore.

Birthday Week Wrap Up

Hey everyone.
How have you been?
Sorry I haven't posted in awhile
It's been a busy week.

It was my birthday on the 20th November.
I had this huge birthday present haul post,
but I haven't received the biggest (and best) present yet
because the stupid shop hasn't ordered it yet.
I know what it is.
But I'm going to keep it as a relative surprise to everyone.
I'm so excited!

I didn't do anything special on my birthday.
I was at work.
I did however, have 30+ under 5s sing Happy Birthday to me.
It was adorable.
I also got so many birthday drawings!

We went to a local restaurant on Friday night.
I have Chicken Pesto Sizzleplate! So Yum!

But other than that (and the weekend before)
It was a good birthday week.

Stay tuned for the Birthday Present Haul post
Coming soon.

Awesomest Birthday Surprise EVER!

What a weekend!
I was sick on Friday and sent home from work
I got home and my little sister told me that I had ruined her surprise for me
because I had to be at work.
She told me that she would text me
and then I had to leave the house.

So at 4.30pm I got a text
So I left the house.
I went for a drive.
I got a text saying I could go home.

I made it home
opened the door and there was a huge box.
Well long story short.
My best friend Emma was in the box
She had travelled down from Perth for the weekend
to celebrate my birthday
My sisters and my mum had organised it
They had been organising it for 2 weeks with Emma.

It was surprised
but because I was sick
I didn't really act it!
The weekend was AMAZING!
It would of been epic if I wasn't sick
Plus Emma had her wisdom teeth removed on Wednesday
so she wasn't 100% herself either!

On Friday we just went for a drive and saw my dad and Cous Cous
we had Fish & Chips and played Cards Against Humanity.

On Saturday we went shopping.
Did some tourist stuff
Took Emma to Penis Rock (yep you heard me right)
Here's the proof!

We went to the Amity
(which is a Ship that brought people to Albany)
and did some other random sight seeing

Made a cake.
AN AWESOME Peanut Butter Chocolate Mousse Cake!
And made Stir Fry for dinner
We then played Cards Against Humanitys again!

Today we went to the Boatshed Markets
(which I didn't even know existed!)
We had some food
I bought some succulents to make a terrarium.

We then went to Whale World
saw some animals
I bought myself an Erstwilder Ship Brooch!

Isn't it awesome!?

we then went to The Gap
which is a gap in the rocks where the ocean rushes in. LOL
We left because some tourists were being stupid and not following the safety warnings

Then came home and Emma left. :(

What an amazing weekend
What an amazing start to my birthday week!
I don't think it can get any better.
But we will see!

If you don't know what The Reward is.

The Reward is an extraordinary nine-minute fantasy student film created at The Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark. Directed by Mikkel Mainz and Kenneth Ladekjær.

You can watch it for yourself here.

They are currently making a Youtube web series (thanks to Kickstarter funding, If I had knew about it, I would of backed them, but it's over now)

*****

in any colour
I'm not fussed, really!

I like this new Raspberry Ice colour.
They're so PRETTY!
But $799.00
so not for me anytime soon!

*****

How awesome would it be to travel around Europe in one of these!?

Seriously! It's freaking awesome!
I would probably need a little mattress for the bed space,
but hey! If I had the money, I would design my own.

What do you really "need" but can't afford/justify?

I'm going to tell you a secret.
Something that I keep quiet.

What A Week!!!

What a week!
And it's only going to get even busier.

First off, I don't know if I mentioned the job interview I went to.
Well... I GOT THE JOB!
A full time Childcare job!

I start when I get back from my holiday!

Which starts Thursday! I can't believe that this weekend I'll be on the other side of the country!
It's such a long way away.
PAX is going to be freaking awesome.
I'm going to try and just 'go with it'
and not get stressed etc.

Tomorrow I PACK!
I have done a test run, but I don't want to forget anything!
So tomorrow I pack for real.
And charge all my bits and bobs (laptop, DS, Camera etc.)

DON'T PANIC!

I'm excited and scared about my new job.
Starting any new job is scary, but I've never had a full time job before
and this one involves LOTS of RESPONSIBILITY!
I'm looking after peoples Children!
But I will think about when I get back from my trip.

Now I will think about:
GAMING
Taronga Zoo
PACIFIC RIM @ IMAX
Awesome things!

Dream Kitchen.

This post is inspired by and dedicated to
my mum, who taught me how to cook
and
my auntie Jo, who loves interior design (read her blog)
they both inspire and influence my sense of style.

I'm obsessed with baking at the moment.
Thanks to The Great British Bake Off!

I've been thinking about having my own kitchen.
I'm jealous, because my little sister is so close to having her own house.
and her own kitchen..... not that her partner will let her in it!

So here is some inspiration for my DREAM KITCHEN.

First things first!
I need to have 2 things.
Even if I have a crappy kitchen, if I have these 2 items
my dream kitchen is complete.

they are....

A Kitchen Aid Mixer!

I just haven't decided what colour!
I'm thinking the turquoise one!
But I don't have $700 to spend on a mixer!

the second essential dream kitchen item is...

a Smeg fridge!

again!
I don't know what colour!
:)

I know there are cheaper alternatives :)

White rectangular tiles.
I believe they're called "Subway Tiles"
But I may be wrong :D

as well as exposed brick!!!

I ove the mix of modern white and stainless steel with organic brick and wood.

I also want heaps of room for all my cookbooks!

I love the green cabinets in this kitchen. But I would prefer white
and add heaps of colourful accessories!
Plus a HUGE wide Oven!!!!

and plants. Lots of plants.
Herbs growing to cans and recycled containers.

Lots of yummy herbs and succulents!

THE PANTRY!

I would love a huge walk in pantry! With shelves from floor to ceiling
stacked with glass containers holding all the ingredients!

This picture is my favourite. I looks like they have utilised hallway space.
It's an artwork in it's self.
Guest can look at the colours and pick up the jars.

I don't believe in hiding away things.
Especially if they can be displayed beautifully!

Why send time going through cabinets and cupboards looking for
pots and pans and utensils, when you can use them
as a feature.
After all... it's a kitchen, and that's what kitchens are for!

One day.
I will have my dream kitchen.
I don't exactly know what it will look like.
I probably won't get everything I want!

As long as I have a space to bake and cook.

Stay tuned for
Dream Bathroom.
Dream Bedroom.
Dream Garden.

Dream Living Room.
