NaBloPoMo - Midway

I'd say we're about half way through NaBloPoMo and, well it's all gone a little awry. The prompts given from BlogHer started out good, but are starting to get a little boring, but I'm not going to give up.

Thursday, 17th November, 2011
Make a list of everyone you've ever had a crush on in your life, then choose one from the list and describe him or her in great detail.
The Colins - There was 2 of them. One was in my friends group, but I never got on with him. He actually used to bully me, so I don't know why in my right mind I liked him. He was the first guy in my year to shave, everyone gave him shit about it. The other Colin was a little bit of a stoner. I don't actually know if he ever did do any drugs, but he seemed pretty much out of it all the time. I don't think I said a word to him once.
There was an older boy I had a crush on when I was in year 8. I friended him on ICQ (remember that) and talked to him for awhile, but then a girl in my year told him who I was and he gave me so much shit for it. I don't think I've ever hated anyone more than him and the girl in my year. I actually remember writing in my diary I wanted something bad to happen to her, and then a week later her dad died in a car crash :( it was pretty traumatic, now I never wish anything bad on anyone.

What has been the happiest moment of your life thus far?
God.... talk about prompts to make you think.
Maybe seeing snow for the first time on Mt Wellington in the middle of Spring.
When my aunt, who had been trying to have a baby for awhile, announced that she was having a baby.
Seeing HIM & Muse in concert.
There is a few. I can't really remember the happiest.

Comic Recommendations

I'm heading to Perth, that means comic book store! But I need some recommendations. Let me know what comics you're reading. I love Runaways and Sweet Tooth.

What is the moment that you leave childhood and enter adulthood?
I don't think I have made it to that point yet, well not completely anyway. I still live at home, I still buy toys and games etc. I understand the responsibilities I have (like turning up to work on time), having loans to repay, paying my taxes etc. Since I've never lived away from home, I haven't had to care for myself, cooking/cleaning etc. But I do think I could do it. I'm quite capable of looking after myself.

Describe a favorite place. Focus on how that place affects your sense of taste, touch, sight, sound, or smell.
I haven't been to very many places. I'm going to have to say my home. I'm quite a homebody. I love feeling comfortable in my space. My memories are here, all the things I love and some of the people I love. It's just a place where I can feel safe.

Have you faced fears and overcome them?
I used to be afraid of heights, but my dad took me for a fly in a small airplane when I was younger, and my fear of heights was replaced by a love of flying. I'm also starting to overcome my fear of balloons... cue laughter. I hate them! Roy from The IT Crowd explains it perfectly "Balloons explode, Jen. They explode suddenly, and unexpectedly. They are filled with the capacity to give me a little fright, and I find that unbearable."

When you where 5, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I found a drawing I did when I was in year 1. The title was "When I grow up I want to be a...." and do you know what I wrote?! A horse rider! I HATE HORSES! What was I thinking?

What is your secret (or not-so-secret) passion?
Life. I always seem to be complaining about my life, but secretly extremely happy with the way it's going. I may be overweight, never been in a relationship, have not very many friends, but it's not that much of a problem. I'm healthy and loved and that's pretty much all I need.

NaBloPoMo - Did you say interior design?

urm.... No!

When was the first time that you realized that your home was not like other people’s homes?

I saw this prompt before I start work and all I could think was "Interior Design Post"

My friends always loved my house. It wasn't like there 4x1 single storey brick homes. We had a 2 storey wooden house, with high ceilings and large rooms. We also had a large block with trees and lots of grass. We used to make tree-houses in the 100 year old Mulberry Tree we had in the yard, we'd come up to the house at the end of the day covered it red mulberry stains. I still miss that house. It hasn't even been a year since we moved out, and it's still a bit of a raw subject.

The house I live in now is nice. It's a 4x1 single storey brick house :) but my family is here, and that's what really matters.

But in saying that, I still one day want my own house. The idea of renting scares me, I would much rather own my own house, but the idea of mortgage repayments is scary too. I'm not overly fussed about the type of house, as long as I can make it my own. I would prefer an older weatherboard house with high ceilings, or even an old warehouse space. Everything can be in the same room (well except the bathroom), it can be small and pokey, I really don't care, as long as I can paint when I feel like, hammer as many nails into the walls and not have to worry about spilling stuff on the carpet.

I would love to have a floor to ceiling library so I can but all my books, DVDs and comic book collection.

Maybe an arcade game/pinball machine (or two)

A garage door to paint!

Enough room for a comfy bed

A brightly coloured fridge covered in awesome pictures

A huge sofa covered in cushions

Enough room in the garden for a koi pond. I will probably have a hobbit garden (ie one that never gets cared for and just grows crazy)

In my search for photos for my dream house, I re-found these photos. How awesome is this "apartment"?
I want to live there!

NaBloPoMo - Traumatic Events

Has anything traumatic ever happened to you? Describe the scenes surrounding a particular event.

I'm very lucky to not have been involved in anything too traumatic. I think the most traumatic thing that has ever happened to me was probably my parents separation. It was pretty traumatic, it involved lots of tears, anger and attempts to runaway... Did I mention I was 23 at the time. I don't want to go too much into it at the moment because even though it's been just over a year, its still very raw.

I've never been involved in any car accidents, lots of near misses, but like my dad says, a near miss is a near miss. I remember when I learning to drive I was on a roundabout and a stupid scooter driver took the corner to fast and fell off his scooter... That was pretty scary.

I am very lucky.

NaBloPoMo - What Balance?

Prompts are back! I'm thinking that there won't be prompts on weekends!

How do you balance your children, relationship, and work life?

Children - Don't have any.
Relationship - NOPE!
Work - It's pretty much the only thing I do.

Since my life is rather boring... well just void of children and relationships, I'm going to talk to you about organisers. As you already know, I'm a little bit of a stationery-phile... OKAY... A COMPLETE STATIONERY-PHILE!

Every year, around this time I start thinking about purchasing an organiser for next year, for the last couple of years it's been a Moleskine (2009 - Day to a page, 2010 - Weekly notebook, 2011 - Day to a page) Moleskines are awesome! I love everything about them, but I think it's time to try something new. In September I pre-ordered the 2012 Frankie Magazine Diary. It's so beautiful, and I kind of don't want to ruin it with my random scribbles... I always seem to have this problem with new notebooks and journals.
Another problem I have, is at the beginning of the year I use my organiser, but as the year moves on, I use it less and less until it is completely empty for months and months! This was a problem I had with the Day to a page Moleskines. That's why I moved to a weekly notebook Moleskine, but then I found myself running out of room! I just can't win :(

I would love to have a Filofax, but they are so expensive, and I would get bored of the same look every year... and there are so many choices! What size? What colour?

I actually post a similar thing to this last year... whether to choose a Moleskine or a Filofax. I will probably get a Moleskine Weekly Notebook, and then try and be even more anti-social than I was in 2010 :)

Scrap that! I have found the organiser I want! It's a Moleskine, it's Weekly Notebook... and it's YELLOW!
It's freaking Pac-Man! I just ordered it. It's coming from Italy so it will take awhile, but I don't need it until 2012. And it was only $20 from Fishpond. Awesome! Can't freaking wait. I might use my Frankie Diary for Badgers In Top Hats or something.

I know I didn't really answer the prompt question... but it is a Prompt to get use inspired... and it worked didn't it :)

for more awesome organisers, check out organizers. on LiveJournal

NaBloPoMo - Dinner Party

Still no prompts, so I've decided to do my own!

Who are 5 people (dead or alive) that you would invite to a Dinner Party.

Gene Roddenberry - Creator of Star Trek
I had to decide between George Lucas & Gene, but went with Gene
Star Trek was before Star Wars and his vision of the
Star Trek universe is so vast. It would be awesome just to
hear him talk about it.
Douglas Adams - author of The Hitch-Hikers Guide To The Galaxy,
Doctor Who writer, friend of the Monty Python crew etc.
Have you read Hitch-Hikers? This man is so funny, he IS British Humour!
Albert Einstein - Simply so we can compare bedhair!
Neil Gaiman - author of everything worth reading, screenwriter,
Doctor Who writer.... married to Amanda Palmer
Awesomest Story Teller EVER!
Markus Persson aka NOTCH!
Really no explanation needed... he invented MINECRAFT!!
We would sit around a round table and just eat, drink and be merry. They seem like a merry bunch!
My little sister just commented that they're all men... so what! I couldn't think of any women that I would want to have dinner with... I can think of a hundred more men I would invite to dinner, but no women :) Men are more fun!

NaBloPoMo - Words Of Wisdom

No prompt from BlogHer today, so my awesome blogger buddy emmmyyyy has given me a prompt to use for today!

Share your favourite poem/quote/excerpt and why it is your favourite/what it means to you.

I thought about this.
I don't read much poetry.
I'm not one to remember excerpts from books.
I LOVE QUOTES, but never seemed to find one that I love... except for "Don't Panic"
So I've decided to use lyrics (they're like poems!)

This song has helped me through a lot! Including some rather difficult friend breakups, my parents separation and my own depression.
It's the first song that I heard by this particular band and it was love at first sight (or listen!)

I'm not going to tell you the song until you've read the lyrics :)

Follow through
Make your dreams come true
Don't give up the fight
You will be alright
'Cause there's no one like you in the universe

Don't be afraid
What your mind conceives
You should make a stand
Stand up for what you believe
And tonight
We can truly say
Together we're invincible

During the struggle
They will pull us down
But please, please
Let's use this chance
To turn things around
And tonight
We can truly say
Together we're invincible

Do it on your own
It makes no difference to me
What you leave behind
What you choose to be
And whatever they say
Your souls unbreakable

During the struggle
They will pull us down
But please, please
Let's use this chance
To turn things around
And tonight
We can truly say
Together we're invincible
Together we're invincible

During the struggle
They will pull us down
Please, please
Let's use this chance
To turn things around
And tonight
We can truly say
Together we're invincible
Together we're invincible

When Baby Animals Attack!!

There doesn't seem to be a NaBloPoMo prompt today, so I've decided to post an epic picspam. There is 21 images, mostly baby animals and geekery.

Wishlist

As most of you know... it's almost my birthday!
I'll be 25, which if a pretty scary number... I'm a quarter of a century OLD!
I guess I feel a bit blah about turning 25 because I'm yet to experience things in life that most people have, Love, Relationships....blah blah blah etc. *sadface*
But enough *sadface* it's happy.... it's my birthday... the one day of the year I have a good excuse to be a selfish cow (not that I ever am :D) and the one question I HATE hearing is... "What do you want for your birthday!?" GAH! I am a hard person to buy for, because if I find something I want... I buy it for myself, it's that simple. So I've decided to do a little wishlist, just to help everyone along... but considering people who will be buying me gifts (family and non-awesome "real life" friends) don't (and never will) read this blog... it's pretty much just gratuitous (oooooh! don't you just LOVE that word? Say it with me... gra-tu-i-tous)

  • Finish This Book by Keri Smith
  • Nerd Do Well by Simon Pegg... the softcover version (so I don't break my face when I fall asleep while reading it.... There's a funny story about that! Have you seen the new biography on Steve Jobs? It's about 2 inches thick and hardcover... long story short... I fell asleep and woke up with a bloody nose!!!)
  • Minecraft cake... this might possibly happen!!
  • Tribble
  • Minecraft Sheet Magnets
  • Minecraft Foam Pickaxe
  • Someone who is more creative then me, to make me THIS! or THIS!
  • anything from thinkgeek.com
  • Don't Panic towel
  • AT-AT Walker Statue (not going to put any links here... just to confuse you all a little!)
  • There is so much more that for some reason I can't think of!!!! DAMMIT!
There are heaps of things I want, that I know I'll probably never get! Like a Ford Mustang, Trip to Mars, Eli Roth etc. but a girl can dream.... Maybe a trip to Mars in a Ford Mustang with Eli Roth.... *drools*

NaBloPoMo - Paper Or Screen?

When you are writing, do you prefer to use a pen or a computer?

It all depends on where I am and how I'm feeling.
I have so many notebooks, mostly half filled with random dribble, personal entries, fanfiction, short stories and ideas, dream and inspirations.
I love seeing handwritten journals and diaries.
But being a blogger, I also love using my computer to write. I have numerous folders dedicated to different types of writing. Personal, fanfiction, blog posts that I start planning but never finish... EVERYTHING!
I love writing lists... whether in be on the computer or on paper. I think handwritten lists are the best. If I find a piece of paper on the ground at work I always check to see if it's a list. I used to collect them, but I have misplaced them when I moved house :(
When I was in primary school and early highschool my friends and I used to write stories all the time, but I found once school started to get harder and my friends interested changed I began to write less and less.
I wish I was into writing stories again. I have lots of ideas, but can't seem to get them down. Damn my brain!

Now for a We Heart It picspam... today's magic word is "Journal"

NaBloPoMo - Writing & Music!

Can you listen to music and write? What song did you hear today?

The second I get up in the morning (or afternoon depending on how lazy I am) I turn on my computer and open iTunes and press play. Music plays pretty much every waking hour. I think my life would be a very quiet and sad place without music. So the answer to the first part of the questing is YES!

Last night I discovered Skylar Grey. She's a singer/songwriter that has written some pretty good songs including "Love The Way You Lie" which is sang by Rihanna. This morning I was lucky enough to find Skylars original demo of "Love The Way You Lie" and it is so much better than Rihannas'

I've listened to it about 15 times since I downloaded it. She has a new album due out by the end of the year, and I'm hoping the other songs are just as good. I'm not usually one to listen to female singers, but her voice is really good, and the lyrics are excellent.

This is the only sing I have listened to today. But now I'm off to work to listen to stupid CD that repeats every hour! :(

NaBloPoMo - Last Meal

If you knew that whatever you ate next would be your last meal, what would you want it to be?

This seemed like a hard one. Because if I knew it was going to be my last meal I would probably be an emotional wreck, but in saying that, I don't think I would want to spend my last day sad and depressed.

I would like to sit down and have a meal with my family. Probably a roast pork (with crackling), mash potatoes, vegetables and all the extras. Followed by dessert. My mum's homemade lemon chessecake and my aunts cream puffs and then my uncles signature vanilla custard. But I think it would be the people I'm with not the meal that would be the really important thing.

I was going to add a picture of a yummy roast dinner but for some reason google doesn't want to find it for me... everything else it has no trouble, but as soon as I search "roast dinner" it doesn't work!!! FAIL!

NaBloPoMo - Favourite Part About Writing

What is your favourite part about writing?

Freedom and expression. I'm not very creative when it comes to arts & crafts, and I'm no good at sports (I think if I was a little bit healthier that might be different) Writing is my way of expressing myself. I'm shy in real life, I'm no good at small talk and starting conversations... where writing gives me a barrier between me and the audience. In writing I can be anything, anywhere and with anyone. Some times is distracts me from my "poor sad life" sometime I use it to express how awesome my life is. Writing (blogging in particular) allows me to show my real side, no masks, no hiding. In real life I find myself adapting to my surroundings, not talking about the things I really love, because I know people would not understand. Online the people that read my blog and writings are people that found themselves here because they like the same things I do.
I don't think I'm a very good writer. I'm getting better over time. I still have trouble getting my thoughts onto paper (or screen). I'm a little bit of a Grammer Nazi :) I try to make sure that the fullstops and commas are in the correct places, Capitals in the right spot (not like that :D) and that I use the appropriate words... don't get me started of Where, Were and We're or Their, There and They're!!!
Writing is my expression tool. When I'm sad I write... I can sometimes be found awake at 3am surrounded with pages of scribble. It's my way of getting everything out, out of my mind so I can sleep!

I'm hoping that NaBloPoMo will help me develop my writing skills. I'm looking forward to the prompts and I hope you're looking forward to reading my posts. Stay tuned!

NaBloPoMo - National Blog Posting Month

I've decided to participate in NaBloPoMo or National Blog Posting Month. It started on November 1st and because I was so busy I completely forgot, so I'm going to pre-date the posts to their correct days, so I apologise for the little bit of confusion... but luckily there is only 3 :)

People I know are doing their own versions, but I'm going to use the writing prompts on the NaBloPoMo site. I know that I will miss some, and probably won't get to the end of the month... but I will try not to fail this one :)
